Alumni Profile: Kelsey Darin, ’17

Kelsey DarinIt was a chain of blessings in disguise that led Indiana State University alumna Kelsey Darin, ’17, to the desk she now occupies as a product developer at McGraw-Hill Education’s Burr Ridge, Ill., office.

“When I was a sophomore, the Principles of Macroeconomics class that I had originally planned to take was cancelled a few days before classes started. The only one available that worked with my schedule was Bob Guell’s,” said Darin, who was a marketing major.

In the fall, McGraw-Hill Education had a product developer position open, and Darin immediately applied. She started her full-time job with the company in October 2017, working with textbook authors and contributors to enhance and design products.

Michelle White Earns Rankin Award

Michelle WhiteMichelle White was one of the prestigious Rankin Award winners. Michelle, '18, is an operations and supply chain management major with a minor in marketing from Swansea, Illinois. After graduation, she will be relocating to Indianapolis to begin her professional career in the purchasing department of Rolls-Royce.

"There are so many resources and ways to get involved at State. Not utilizing those resources and organizations is a disservice to yourself," White said.

Indiana State, Brazilian MBA Students Explore Uber’s International Expansion

Master of Business Administration students from Indiana State University and Fundação Getulio Vargas in Brazil learned the unexpected twists and turns companies can encounter in their quest to go global.

It was a lesson for nearly two dozen students and faculty from Fundação Getulio Vargas who took part in Aruna Chandra's Finance for Executives program at Indiana State's Scott College of Business, May 20-28. The weeklong program included a variety of modules, lectures and hands-on activities in the areas of finance, entrepreneurship, teaming and motorsports, as well as a discussion on Uber's international strategy.

Dr. Ashley Gard

Ashley GardWe have a new Director of Undergraduate Student Services! Dr. Ashley Gard is currently an advisor for our Health and Human Services.  She earned a bachelor’s in Business Administration from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, a master’s in Sports Management and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Indiana State University.  She will be in the college full time starting April 24.



Alumni Profile: Leigh Mack, ’90

Leigh MackMack’s resume after graduating from State with a degree in marketing reads like the lifetime accomplishments of more than one person. He became a doctor, business owner, educator, medical researcher, Boy Scout leader, cyclist, Army veteran, Ford salesman, Caterpillar marketing manager and much more. When he went to Oxford in England to gain experience in trauma and reconstructive surgery, Mack met the woman who would become his wife.

Entrepreneurship and Human Capital Management Minors Coming to Scott College of Business

The Indiana State University Board of Trustees approved two new minors Friday - entrepreneurship and human capital management. The entrepreneurship minor will give students first-hand experience in developing a valid, defensible business plan that takes into account the financial, legal, ethical and environmental aspects of creating and managing a new venture. The human capital management minor will provide students with the skills to manage the strategic resource of any organization - its employees.

Kyle Varble ’17, Lands Prestigious Management-track Job

One-on-one attention helped Kyle Varble ’17, land a prestigious management-track job at Rolls-Royce right after graduation. Kyle, who graduated with a degree in operations and supply chain management, interned at the company between his junior and senior years, thanks to several connections between Rolls-Royce and the university.

One of the people who helped Kyle start his career was Kuntal Bhattacharyya, an associate professor of operations and supply chain management and the director of the Center for Supply Management Research. Kuntal is one of many faculty members who take a personal interest in their students' success — in the classroom and in their careers.
